Pollard gets attention for his talent
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Scot Pollard gets a lot of attention for his Pebbles Flintstone ponytail and his mutton chop sideburns. Lately, he's been getting noticed for his talent.
Normally the Sacramento Kings' reserve center, Pollard has been the team's starting power forward the absence of injured Chris Webber, the team's leading scorer and rebounder.
"I'm happy with the way I've been playing," said Pollard, who has averaged 10.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and shot .472 percent while playing 35 minutes per game since Webber's departure.
Respect: "I feel like I'm getting more respect from the officials, too. I used to get called for fouls just because I was in the lineup."
Pollard was the 19th overall pick of the 1997 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons out of Kansas. But he played less than 10 minutes per game in his rookie season.
Traded to the Atlanta Hawks during the 1998-99 season, Pollard remained on the team's injured list for his one-month tenure before being waived.
The Kings signed Pollard as a free agent for the final two months of the 1998-99 season and then re-signed him to a multi-year contract as a free agent last season.
