KEYSTONE CLIPS Report ends on happy note
Mercer County Commissioner Gene Brenneman didn't think the Rev. Ralph F. Newell's monthly report on his Offenders Contact Report to the county Prison Board last week was quite complete.
"Don't you want to report that today is your 60th birthday?" he asked. The Rev. Mr. Newell admitted that it was indeed his birthday, prompting Brenneman to lead those attending the meeting in a chorus of "Happy Birthday."
Trip to Disney World: Grove City High School Eagle Marching Band will be in Florida on March 16 to participate in Disney World's Magic Kingdom parade that day. While in Florida, the band will visit MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom and EPCOT Center, and will attend a performance of Cirque De Soleil at Downtown Disney.
The students have been raising money for the trip for the past two years. The band is under the direction of John A. Habarka and assistant Gabrielle Moore.
Camp seeks kids: Pennsylvania State Police are looking for Lawrence and Mercer county youths age 12 to 15 to be part of the 2001 Mercer/Lawrence County Camp Cadet. It will take place June 24-29 at McKeever Environmental Center in Mercer County.
The camp's goal is to give kids a positive attitude toward law enforcement, build self-esteem, confidence, respect and discipline. Cadets follow a rigid daily schedule with a 6:30 a.m. wake-up and a 10 p.m. bedtime. There will be class instruction and hands-on demonstrations about law enforcement.
Applications are available at Mercer and New Castle state police barracks, or by contacting the community services unit of either barracks. The application deadline is May 13 and there is a $20 registration fee.
The camp does not receive state funding and relies on community support. Donations supporting the camp can be sent to both barracks.
