Volunteer Services Agency is the resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages in the Mahoning Valley. It sponsors the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which places people 55 and older, and the Volunteer Center, the clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities. SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES
Camp Fire Council: Magic show at Austintown Middle School from 1 to 5 p.m. next Sunday.Hillman Middle School: Book fair at the school from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. March 26.
Oakland Center for the Arts: Ann Frank Exhibit April 30 to May 25.Ohio State University Extension (4-H Youth Development): Various community events.
CAN YOU HELP?
Volunteer help also is needed for these agencies:
American Red Cross (blood services): People needed to assist with registration and serving refreshments to donors. Some standing and moving required.Camp Fire Council: Board members needed. People also needed as instructors for nature, health and academic programs.Goodwill Industries: Book sorter needed. Some standing required and will accommodate weekday hours.Head Start Programs: Weekday volunteers needed to assist teacher with pre-reading activities, hand-washing, snacks and free play.Hope House: People needed in a variety of areas to assist in a child-friendly environment for supervised visitation. Tasks may include child care, clerical support, and cleaning rooms.Mahoning County Chemical Dependency Program: People are needed for the program's Project Safe activity. Volunteers will assist in the afternoons children of recovering chemically dependent women in programs aimed at building self-esteem, confidence and relationship management skills. Orientation provided.Marian Living Center: People needed to call bingo, play bridge, paint nails, assist in the gift shop and with parties for senior citizens.Neighborhood Ministries: Volunteers needed to assist with after-school programs for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic: A greeter is needed for four hours in the mornings or evenings any weekday to prepare paperwork for intake and admission. This person must be pleasant, assertive and able to deal with a variety of personalities.Volunteer Service to Seniors: Volunteers needed for telephone reassurance, home visits and transportation for the elderly and disabled.
