YOUNGSTOWN -- An all-day orientation for Miss Deaf Ohio Pageant contestants will be conducted March 10 at the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center. The pageant, in Youngstown on Aug. 10, is open to women between 17 and 27 who are deaf or hard of hearing, who will complete high school by 2001, and who have never been married or had a child.Call Sandy Frye-Leland at (330) 337-0657.
Assault in jail
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mark A. Batcho, who admitted he tried to kill Prosecutor Paul J. Gains in 1996, has been charged with assault of an inmate, Michael Hogan, in the Mahoning County jail Feb. 23. Batcho 33, of Campbell is in the county jail awaiting trial in the murder of a Boardman man.
