New show
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is announcing a new series, "What Catholics Believe," produced by the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown.
The Rev. Kevin Fete, pastor of Little Flower Parish in North Canton, and Dr. Ray Guarendi, a clinical psychologist and author, will discuss the Catholic faith and misconceptions about it. The 13-part series airs at 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting Tuesday on the ETC-TV. Check local cable listings. For more information, call (330) 533-2243.
Gospel presentation
BOARDMAN -- Television star Frank Runyeon will bring his production based on the Gospel of Mark to St. Luke Church at 7 p.m. March 22. Runyeon's drama, entitled "Afraid," is set in the catacombs of Rome. An offering will be taken. He has starred in a number of soap operas, including "Falcon Crest."
LANDMARK
75th anniversary
CAMPBELL -- Marion Heights United Methodist Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary at its present location at 144 Woodland Ave. this weekend.
From noon to 4 p.m. today, there will be a free community festival with entertainment, games and food.
At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dr. Gary Olin, the United Methodist District superintendent, will speak. A dinner will follow. The Christ Community Church Praise Team will also lead a service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The church's roots date to 1839, when the Coitsville Methodist Episcopal Church was formed. After fire destroyed that church, the congregation formed a union with Wilson Avenue Church, which was established in 1892. They built a new church and adopted a new name.
LENT
Early church talk
WARREN -- The Rev. George Balasko will discuss how the early church dealt with the trauma of Jesus' death. The program is from 7 to 9 p.m. March 5 and 12 at St. Mary Church.
On Fridays in March, the church will have Stations of the Cross at 11:15 a.m. and Mass at 12:05 p.m., followed by a lunch. Call (330) 373-6921 for lunch reservations.
Concert set
POLAND -- Woodworth Church of the Brethren will be host of a Lenten concert featuring a local gospel group, "A Leap of Faith," at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. An offering will be taken. Refreshments will follow the service.
Programs foryouths and adults
WARREN -- First Presbyterian Church will have Lenten study on discipline for adults and programs for children at 5:30 p.m. for five Wednesdays beginning next Wednesday. Each evening will start with a dinner.
The church's health ministry will sponsor a discussion of Bill Moyers' PBS show "On Our Own Terms: Moyers on Dying." The program is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Sunday in March. Lunch will be served.
The church is also offering Systematic Training for Effective Parenting from 7 to 9 p.m. Sundays from this Sunday through April 22. A book for the course is $15.
Lenten studies
WARREN -- Emmanuel Lutheran Church's Lenten study will look at different aspects of its theme, "Discipleship." The church will have services at 1 and 7 p.m. and soup suppers and study at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through April 4.
Icons service
BOARDMAN -- St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church will commemorate the restoration of Holy Icons with a Great Vespers service observing Orthodoxy Sunday at 6 p.m. Sunday. The Most Rev. John Michael Botean, bishop of the Romanian Diocese of Canton, will preside. Refreshments will follow.
Taize services
COLUMBIANA -- First United Methodist Church will have Taize services from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesdays during Lent. Ecumenical Taize services feature distinctive sung prayers.
Lenten reflection
McDONALD -- The Rev. James Walker, pastor of Sts. Cyril & amp; Methodius Church in Warren, will present a program, "Questions that Move the Soul," at 7 p.m. each Thursday in March. The program is at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Soup luncheons
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Patrick's Church will a Lenten lunch series at noon Tuesday and March 20 and 27, and April 3 at the rectory. Speakers will discuss topics ranging from foods of the Bible to "The Blessings of Age." Mass will be celebrated in the church at 11:30 a.m. before each luncheon.
Conference day
NORTH JACKSON -- The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon will be host to a Lenten conference day starting at 9 a.m. March 10. The Rev. Luke H. Inoue, a native of Osaka, Japan, will discuss the history of Catholicism in Japan and the apparition of Our Lady of Akita in that country. The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children. The shrine will also offer a nine-day Novena to St. Joseph beginning March 11 and ending on his feast day, March 19. Prayers are at 7 p.m. each night. Prayer intentions can be married to the shrine at 2759 N. Lipkey Road, North Jackson 44451.
Passion play
HUBBARD -- St. Patrick Church's seventh grade Confraternity of Christian Doctrine class is sponsoring a bus trip March 24-25 to see the Passion play, "Behold the Lamb" in Lancaster, Pa. The cost is $151. For more information or reservations, call (330) 534-0537.

Praise night
NILES -- "Amazing Love" is the theme for a praise night at 6 p.m. March 11 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel to honor its late pastoral associate, the Rev. Albert DePascale. The event will feature special music. Refreshments will follow in the newly refurbished Marian Hall.
