LECTURE 'Hope' focus



"Re-Thinking Youngstown: Choosing Hope" is the theme of the 2001 Schaff Lecture series in Youngstown March 14 and 15. The event will focus on applying the lessons learned by area leaders who attended a conference on fighting corruption in Palermo, Italy, and the promise of hope in a desperate world.
The lecturers are Dr. Laurent A. Daloz, acting director and a member of the faculty at the Whidbey Institute in Clinton, Wash. and Dr. Sharon Daloz Parks, an associate director at Whidbey.They have written a book, "Common Fire: Leading Lives of Commitment in a Complex World," which examines society's understanding of the common good and the demand for value-based politics in the public sphere.The Schaff series includes a community worship service at 7 p.m. March 14 at St. John's Episcopal Church. From 9 a.m. to noon March 15, the series continues with worship and a luncheon at First Presbyterian Church. The cost is $10, and advanced reservations are required by sending a check made out to "The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches," and the names of those attending to the MVAC office, 30 W.
