Facts about domestic violence:
One in two women and one in 22 men will be abused.
Domestic violence occurs in homes of all religions.
Batterers come from a range of backgrounds, including professionals, the affluent and those prominent in the community.
Male children are more likely to become abusers when they live in homes with domestic violence.
Female children are more likely to enter into an abusive relationship when they live in homes where mothers stay and endure abuse.
Reasons women can't leave abuse situations include fear, love, embarrassment, lack of money, lack of transportation, no place to go and low self-esteem.
