ELVERDA R. SCHWEISS, 78
SHARON, Pa. -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home for Elverda R. Schweiss, 78, of 573 Oakland Ave., who died early Friday at her home after a nine-month illness.
Mrs. Schweiss, who was known as "Bertie," was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Sharon, a daughter of Samuel F. and Elizabeth M. Buck Shields.
A 1941 graduate of Sharon High School she worked for 18 years at the Outdoor Army-Navy Store in downtown Sharon. She also worked for Bell Telephone Co. in Sharon as an operator during World War II.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hermitage, the Order of the Eastern Star, in Sharon, and a charter member of Sharpsville VFW Auxiliary Post 6404. She was also a member of the American Carpatho-Russian Citizens and Social Club, Sharon, and past senior regent of the Farrell Moose Lodge 70.
Besides her husband, Martin, whom she married July 2, 1945, she leaves a daughter, Betty Jean Bennett of Brookfield, Ohio; a sister, Lorraine Sheidlemanter of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A son, Robert M. Sr. and a brother, Donald Shields are deceased.
Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
