COLLEGE BASKETBALL Senior guard Zolciak leads team in steals



The Warren JFK grad will play in her fourth straight NCAA tournament for the Baldwin-Wallace women.

BEREA -- Mandy Zolciak of Warren will seek to put the finishing touches on an outstanding career for the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team, as the Yellow Jackets open play today in their sixth straight NCAA Division III tournament.
Zolciak, a 5-foot-7 senior guard from John F. Kennedy High, is a member of the starting lineup for the second-seeded Yellow Jackets, who will play host to Defiance at 3 p.m. in a second-round game.
B-W (25-2), coached by Cherri Harrer, is coming off a 73-66 win over Mount Union on Feb. 24 to win the championship of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
OAC dominance: B-W has won three straight OAC regular season and tournament championships.
Defiance (23-4) polished off Penn State-Behrend, 90-59, Wednesday in a first-round game. The Jackets qualified for NCAA play by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships.
Zolciak leads the team in steals with 47, is averaging 5.2 points per game and has 26 3-pointers.
She and senior teammates Jen Nance and Kim Luthman have helped B-W to compile a 102-12 record in their four seasons.
Zolciak also is ranked No. 9 in career assists at B-W with 235, and is tied for No. 10 in steals with 114.
She also is a three-time Academic All-OAC pick, having made the first team for the second straight year with a 3.9875 GPA as a major in exercise physiology.
Zolciak is the daughter of Cathy and Dennis Zolciak.
Others: Two other Youngstown-area players are on the B-W roster. Allison Miketa is a 5-8 sophomore guard from Girard High and Jessica Tafe is a 5-6 sophomore guard from West Branch.
Both players come off the bench. Miketa played in 19 games and Tafe in 11.
Miketa is majoring in pre-medicine and is the daughter of Marie and Russ Miketa.
Tafe is majoring in sport management. She is the daughter of Karen Christy and Mike Tafe.
