Farrell man gets prison term for shooting man in chest, arm
MERCER -- A Mercer County Common Pleas Court judge on Thursday ordered a Farrell man to serve between four years and 81/2 years in a state prison for shooting repeatedly at another man and wounding him in the chest and arm.
Judge Thomas Dobson also ordered Damascus Savage, 21, of Wallis Avenue, to pay more than $25,000 in restitution.
Savage told authorities he had the gun for protection and was defending himself against Brian Pleasant, also of Farrell.
Savage told authorities that he pulled the gun from under the front seat of his vehicle May 6 after he and Pleasant began arguing along Lee Avenue in Farrell, then fired the gun because he felt threatened by Pleasant.
Theft from purse: In another case, Judge Dobson ordered Lester Young, 29, of West Main Street, Grove City, to serve 166 days to one year in Mercer County Jail for stealing, signing and cashing a money order worth $191.48.
Authorities said Young stole a purse from a West Poplar Street, Grove City, home last summer. The victim told authorities the purse contained the money order, but no cash.
Authorities said they learned the money order had been cashed at an area Bilo store and the clerk identified Young as the man who had cashed it.
Dobson also ordered Young to serve 18 months' probation and complete 50 hours of community service.
