WILLIAM HOWARD STEPHENS Jr., 82



NILES -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge, for William Howard Stephens Jr., 82, of 72 Barcelona Drive, who died Tuesday afternoon in St. Joseph Health Center, Warren.
Mr. Stephens was born March 19, 1918, in Indiana, Pa., a son of William H. Sr. and Daisy Boring Stephens.
He was a group leader at U.S. Steel McDonald Mills when he retired in 1981, and previously worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of American Legion in Girard. He played baseball and was a citizen band radio operator with the handle "Double Eagle."
His first wife, the former Stella Abromovich, died in 1972.
Besides his wife, the former Ermagene Hess, whom he married in 1982, he leaves a son, William E. of Girard; five stepsons, Joseph, Charles and Robert Chambers, all of Niles, James Chambers of Austintown and John P. Chambers of Warren; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Four sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Gilberta McGowan, Jean Sheetz and Ethel Bednar; and a brother, Gilbert, are deceased.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
