YOUNGSTOWN -- Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Hemet, Calif., for Charles Hovanes, 79, of Hemet, formerly of Youngstown and Salt Lake City, who died Saturday at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Mr. Hovanes was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Florence Komara Hovanes, and lived in Hemet 17 years.
He was a security supervisor for General Motors in Parma for 24 years. A staff sergeant in the Army during World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart medal.
He was a member of the church and the Sierra Dawn Golf Club.
Besides his wife, Virginia, whom he married 21/2 years ago, he leaves three daughters, Colleen Johansen of LaHabra, Calif., Barbara McIntyre of Hesperia, Calif., and Linda LaMar of Lakewood, Calif.; two sons, Carl of Sandy, Utah, and Thomas McIntyre of LaMirada, Calif.; three brothers, Joseph of Marietta, Ga., and Michael and Robert, both of Austintown; and 14 grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Harford Funeral Home, Hemet.
