Car accident kills89-year-old man
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- An 89-year-old Shenango Township man died after a car crash on East Washington Street. William Karki of Alborn Avenue was pronounced dead at Jameson Hospital at 12:21 p.m. Sunday, police said. He was a passenger in a car driven by Rudolph J. Marrone, 83, of Savannah Road, Shenango Township, Lawrence County. Police did not say whether Marrone was injured in the accident. Police said Marrone turned into the path of a southbound car on East Washington Street. The other driver, David Roudabush, 38, of East Washington Street, New Castle, and his two passengers, Kathy Roudabush, 48, and Sarah Roudabush, 13, were treated at St. Francis Hospital. Reports don't indicate whether the Roudabushes are related.
Mosquito spraying
NILES -- Spraying for mosquito control is scheduled after 6 p.m. Tuesday. If it rains Tuesday, the spraying will be moved to Wednesday. People with respiratory problems should stay inside with windows closed. Food shouldn't be prepared or left outside during the spraying period, and pets should be brought indoors.
Cause of death
NORTH JACKSON -- An autopsy was to be performed today to determine the cause of death of 72-year-old John K. Kesic of Hubbard, who died Saturday evening when his car landed in a creek. Kesic's car, traveling east on Interstate 76 between Bailey Road and state Route 45, went off the road around 7:30 p.m., struck a tree, then a fence and continued until it overturned down the embankment to the creek, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. He maybe had a heart attack, the patrol said.
Paraders needed
CAMPBELL -- Organizers of the Campbell Cityfest Diamond Jubilee Parade, which kicks off at 1 p.m. July 7 at city hall, are looking for people or groups to march. Man arrested in assault
WARREN -- A 23-year-old Hall Street N.W. man was arrested on charges of firing a gun into a habitation, felonious assault and receiving stolen property. The man was arrested Sunday and police plan to file formal charges this morning in municipal court, officials said. The man was arrested after shots were fired at a house at 366 Maryland N.W. Joseph Allen, 22, no street address available, was at the Maryland N.W. home when the shooting took place. Allen suffered minor injuries and was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Money stolen from safe
WARREN -- An employee of Toot-N-Scoot, 1875 Elm Road N.E., told police that someone had taken an undisclosed amount of money from the business safe. The employee reported the theft to police Saturday but the report does not state when the theft took place.
Breaking and entering
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said someone broke into a home in the 100 block of South Oakland Avenue around 4 a.m. today while the residents of the house were sleeping. Entry was gained by breaking a window in the attached garage, police said. A purse and a wallet were stolen.
Police probe store theft
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the theft of $500 from the Chicago Cutlery Store at the Prime Outlets in Springfield Township. Police said the theft occurred around 3 p.m. June 19, but state police didn't explain why they delayed releasing information on the theft.
Workers donated
ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- After money problems forced the American Red Cross to discontinue 67 years of daily first aid service at Presque Isle last month, an ambulance company has agreed to donate workers to keep the station running this summer. Erie-based EmergyCare Inc. has agreed to station a medical technician at the first aid station at Beach 7 during weekdays, while the Red Cross will continue weekend and holiday hours, said John Fuhrmann, head of the local Red Cross.
