YBA HALL OF FAME Group to induct three

The ceremonies will be June 24 at the ITAM Centre.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tom Posey, James "Lefty" Shopinsky and the late John L. "Jack" Lawson Sr. are this year's Youngstown Bowling Association Hall of Fame selections.
They will be inducted June 24 at the YBA's awards dinner at the ITAM Centre on Meridian Road.

Shopinsky: Bowled in the Youngstown Association for over 40 years, including Shooting Gallery, West Side Classic, Triple A, Gran Fellowship, Stadium Classic and Marvondale Classic. He also bowled in 25 ABC tournaments, 35 Ohio state and 35 Youngstown city tournaments. He bowled in the Slovak tournament numerous times.
His highest finish in the ABC tournament was 144th in singles. His best finish in the city tournament was first in both team event and all-events. He also had a first place in the Slovak tournament.
Lefty averaged over 200 for many years with a high average of 220.
He's had five 300 games, and 800 series of 821, 815 and 803.
His 821 came in the 2000 Ohio state senior tournament in which he finished runnerup.
Posey: Started in junior leagues in 1961. Then bowled in the Pyramid League for 20 years, the Boardman Classic for four, Niles Lanes Classic for three and Living Room Classic, Evans Carpet Classic, West Side Classic and Vindicator All-Star League for one year each.
Posey's highest average was 226, highest series 815 and he's had 10 sanctioned 300 games. He bowled in 20 ABC tournaments, 25 state and 25 Youngstown city tournaments. His highest finish in the state tournament was fifth in the team event.
Posey won the U.S. Open qualifier four times and bowled in the U.S. Open four times.
He won two OTBA tournaments, four American Slovak singles tournaments and Wedgewood singles match play three times.
He won Inner-City doubles once and was a member of the OTBA all-star team in 1978. He was a city tournament champion in singles actual, doubles, team and all-events.
He also had the Youngstown Men's Bowling Association high average twice and was a member of the four-man Boardman Lanes Classic team that shot 2,943, which was third-highest in the nation.
Posey's best finish in 10 Peterson Classics was 18th.
Lawson: Lawson was a member of the Youngstown Men's Bowling Association from 1950-1974 and bowled in the Allied Printcraft League for 19 years. His lifetime average was 179. His high game was 258 and high set 686.
In 1964, he won the YMBA doubles title with partner Pete Cover with 1,279. He rolled in five ABC tournaments, 15 Ohio state and 20 Youngstown city tournaments.
In 1957, along with Dick Riley, he formed the Mahoning Valley Bowler newspaper and served as editor until 1974.
He was honored by the Bowling Writers of America Association for his excellence in serving the sport. He was honored many times by the American Junior Bowling Association for donating space in the Mahoning Valley Bowler for juniors.
His mother, Viola, formed a family mixed league for her 11 children and held it ˚together for over 25 years.
Lawson passed away in 1992 in Tempe, Arizona.
