Major League leader: Pirates closer Mike Williams has closed all 12 games of his save opportunities and has a streak of 19 dating to Sept. 3, the longest streak in the major leagues. Anaheim's Troy Percival has converted 18 straight while the Indians' Bob Wickman has 15.
Disabled list: Indians left-hander Chuck Finley is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list today. Finley has been suffering neck spasms since late May.
Giles on fire: In Pirates outfielder Brian Giles' nine games from June 6-15, he batted .514 with eight multi-hit games. His batting average jumped 33 points from .296 to .329.
Oops: The Indians have the second-best fielding percentage in the American League, but have made 12 errors in their past 20 games through Friday.
Improvement: The Indians are 10-4 in one-run games this year after going 17-24 in 2000.
Series woes: The Pirates are 4-17 in series this season and haven't won one since they won two games against the Colorado Rockies from May 4-6.
Next: Both the Tribe and Bucs have Monday off and open home-stands Tuesday. The Indians welcome the Twins to Jacobs Field for 7 p.m. games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. At least 4,000 tickets are available at the gate for each game. The Indians make their first trip to Kansas City next weekend then return to The Bronx for three games against the New York Yankees from June 25-27. The Pirates continue their 13-game homestand when they play the National League East-leading Phillies Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at PNC Park. All games begin at 7 p.m. Next weekend, the Bucs will play the Montreal Expos. The homestand concludes June 25-28 with four games against the Milwaukee Brewers.
