YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Lung Association of Ohio, Northeastern Branch, is offering group hypnosis sessions on July 8 at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, aimed at ending nicotine addition and losing weight. Clinical hypnotist Don Mannarino will conduct the weight loss session at 12:30 p.m. and the stop smoking session at 1:45 p.m. Registration is required and the fee is $50 per person, which includes the group session, an audio cassette and a year of reinforcement at any Lung Association hypnosis program in Ohio. Free insurance info
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Department of Insurance offers free information and other helpful services through a program called OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program). Insurance counseling, a speaker's bureau and literature is available from OSHIIP by calling (800) 686-1578. Also, certified local volunteer counselors who have completed 20 hours of training will provide free information about Medicare coverage for seniors and for people under age 65 with disabilities, about HMO coverage, supplemental insurance, Medicaid, long-term care coverage, home health and retiree health plan coverage. Osteoporosis screening
YOUNGSTOWN -- Community Medical Corporation of Boardman, in conjunction with Rite Aid Pharmacy, is offering a heel screening, used to detect osteoporosis, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27, at Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2800 Mahoning Ave. at Schenley Avenue. Results will be given at the time of the examination. Participants must be at least 40 years of age.
GERD education
AUSTINTOWN -- Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering a free community education program on the latest procedures available for treating chronic heartburn and gastroesophagel reflux disease (GERD) from 7 to 8:15 p.m. June 28, at Humility House, 755 Ohltown Road. Dr. Sayed M. Yossef, gastroenterologist with the department of gastroenterology at St. Elizabeth Health Center, and Dr. Robert W. Breast cancer screening
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown YWCA's ENCORE Plus program will sponsor the Mammovan from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 17, at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave. ENCORE Plus provides breast cancer screenings and helps refer Mahoning County women to low- or no-cost mammograms. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling (330) 746-6361. Also, transportation will be provided by appointment only and financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
Immunizations
GIRARD -- A well-child immunization clinic will be at 1:30 p.m. June 28, at the Girard Health Department, 100 W. Main St. The clinic is free to Girard City children. Dr. James J. Enyeart, health commissioner, will conduct the examinations. A parent or guardian must accompany children under age 18 and bring a copy of the child's immunization record.
