Family event held to honor Giddens jubilee



YOUNGSTOWN -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Giddens, 448 Cleveland St., was observed during a family celebration June 9 at the Holiday Inn South in Boardman.
Hosts for the event were the honorees' granddaughter, Atty. Jocelyn Burton, Oakland, Calif., and grandsons and their wives, Edgar and Dawn Burton, Rocky Mount, N.C., and Arthur and Valerie Burton, Richmond, Va. The family circle also includes their sons, Edward L. Giddens and Walter Duncan, both of Youngstown, three other grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The former Katherine M. Patterson and Mr. Giddens were married June 11, 1951, in Cumberland, Md.
Mrs. Giddens retired in 1976 as a secretary in the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. She is a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and the Negro Business and Professional Women's Club.
Retiring in 1994 from General Motors Assembly Plant, Lordstown, Mr. Giddens was personnel administrator. He is a member of Roberts Deliberating Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Giddens are members of Centenary United Methodist Church and he is a member of the United Methodist Men.
