TRUMBULL WATER Officials OK jump in rates

Increases will range from just over a half-percent to about 1.3 percent.

WARREN -- Water will become a little more dear for about 75,000 Trumbull County residents.
County commissioners voted Wednesday to increase water rates by 4 cents per 1,000 gallons for all water and septic customers.
The increase will bring in an additional $127,000 each year, said Thomas Holloway, sanitary engineer.
New building: The money will be used to pay off a 20-year bond for the department's $1.4 million office building on Belmont Avenue in Vienna.
The sanitary engineer's department moved into the new building six months ago.
Some staff had been in the Beal Building on Harmon Street.
Commissioners awarded a $10,900 contract to R. Boccia Construction Co. to demolish the Beal Building and the Brown House, another county-owned building on Harmon.
The rate increase, meanwhile, represents a 0.7-percent to 1.3-percent change for some 25,000 households that receive county water.
Customers in the different water districts pay slightly different rates, according to the initial cost of laying lines to the homes, Holloway said.
When the new rates go into effect Aug. 1, their cost for water will range from $3.18 to $5.69 per 1,000 gallons.
