SRU trustees appoint 3 new administrators

Trustees named the baseball stadium after an alumnus who donated $500,000 toward the stadium.
SLIPPERY ROCK -- Three new deans and one vice president have been appointed as part of a reorganization at Slippery Rock University.
Dr. G. Warren Smith, university president, told the council of trustees at their quarterly meeting Friday that Dr. Robert Watson has been appointed vice president for student affairs. Watson is former dean of academic services and has been with the university for 27 years.
Dr. James Kushner, formerly of Allegheny Community College, was appointed dean for lifelong learning; Dr. Jane Fulton, formerly of Cleveland Health Institute and Cleveland State University, was appointed dean of the College of Health, Environment and Science; and Dr. William McKinney, formerly of Southeast Missouri State, was appointed dean of the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts.
Smith reported the university received an excellent review from the Middle States Accreditation Evaluation Team in March and said he anticipates a vote for reaccreditation in July. In addition, the university is the only public institution in the state to receive accreditation for its dance program, he said.
He reported that 96 percent of SRU education majors passed the Praxis I exam, a state assessment test.
Other action: Trustees voted to name the university's new baseball stadium Jack Critchfield Park after 1955 graduate who donated $500,000 toward the facility, the largest gift by an alumnus.
They also approved a proposal for a new post-master's degree principalship certification program to be offered in collaboration with Clarion University. It now goes before the state board of governors for approval. The proposed program is in response to the projected shortage of administrators for public schools in Pennsylvania. Smith told trustees that 8,500 people will take part in camps and workshops on campus during the summer.
