OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION I-680 cleanup plans

An overview of new efforts by ODOT's Mahoning County office to clean litter from Interstate 680:
Adopt-a-Ramp: The agency is starting a program with people willing to dedicate time to picking up litter and cutting the grass along a particular I-680 ramp, similar to the Adopt-a-Highway program. ODOT will pick up trash and mow near the ramp, then turn the space over to the group. State crews will pick up filled bags of trash after the regular cleanups. Anybody who wants to get involved with keeping a ramp clean can call Charlie Miner, ODOT's Mahoning County director, at (330) 533-4351.More summer workers: The state has agreed to let the local ODOT office hire five summer workers, typically college students, dedicated only to cleaning litter from I-680.
Prisoners: The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department has agreed to provide deputies and 12 to 24 prisoners twice a week from the misdemeanant jail to work at cleaning litter from I-680, from Meridian Road in the city to the U.S. Route 224 exit in Boardman.
