YOUNGSTOWN -- The wedding of Marla Jo Kabalan, daughter of Raymond Kabalan, Youngstown, and the late Mary Jane Kabalan, and Dr. Derek Edmund Neilson, son of Dr. Duncan and Rosalie Neilson, Milwaukie, Ore., took place at 5:30 p.m. May 5 at St. Christine Church.
The Rev. Dennis Bliss officiated, and a reception followed at the Mahoning Country Club in Girard. The couple left on a honeymoon trip to California and Oregon.
The bride wore an ivory strapless gown trimmed with pearls.
Her sister, Suzanne Kabalan, was maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Deanna Faria; Kelly Tedeschi; Christine Kabalan, the bride's sister-in-law; Ellen Owsley; Kimberly Neilson, the groom's sister; and Nicole Tamburino, the bride's cousin. They wore ivory and celedon floral gowns. Hannah Campanelli was flower girl.
Duncan Neilson III was best man for his brother, and groomsmen were the bride's brothers, Paul and Philip Kabalan and Raymond Kabalan Jr.; Cameron Neilson, the groom's brother; Robert Torma; Thomas Tamburino, the bride's cousin; and Steven Tedeschi. The bride's nephew, Zachary Kabalan, was ring bearer.
Mrs. Neilson holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from Youngstown State University and is a neonatal intensive care nurse at Rainbow Babies & amp; Children's Hospital in Cleveland.
Her husband graduated from Johns-Hopkins University and Oregon Health Science University. He is a resident physician of pediatrics and genetics at University Hospitals and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
