POLAND -- The marriage of Elizabeth Selby Meloy and John Joseph Canavan, both of 30 Halsey St., Providence, R.I., was solemnized by the Rev. Dr. Robert Hoover, at 4:30 p.m. June 9 at Poland Presbyterian Church.
A reception was held at the Marble Room of Stambaugh Auditorium, Youngstown, to honor the daughter of W. Stephen and Virginia Meloy, 500 S. Main St., and the son of Richard Canavan, Angel Road, Lincoln, R.I., and the late Charlotte Canavan.
The bride graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College, earned a master's in history at Northwestern University, and is a doctoral candidate in history at Brown University where she is an assistant dean of students.
The groom attended the University of Rhode Island where he is pursuing a degree in secondary education.
The ivory embroidered French satin A-line gown worn by the bride featured spaghetti straps, a scooped neckline and a chapel train.
Mary Davies of Zurich, Switzerland, was honor attendant for her sister, and bridesmaids were Sarah Barnes of Boulder, Colo., and the groom's sisters, Ann Canavan of Wickford, R.I., and Mary Canavan of Portsmouth, N.H.
The groom's brother, Robert Canavan of Cranston, R.I., was best man, and groomsmen were Stephen Neilsen of Colchester, Conn.; David Papa of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and the bride's brother, William Meloy of Bangor, Maine. Ring bearer was the groom's nephew, Evan Andersen of Louisville, Colo.
