AUSTINTOWN -- Harold Norris will go after his dream of becoming a chef almost immediately after graduating from Fitch High School next Sunday.
He'll leave for a culinary institute in Florida later this month and hopes someday to study in Paris.
"Cooking just feels right," he said. Although he was uninspired by the food preparation courses in high school, working in a restaurant ignited his desire to become a chef. Norris has been a cook at the Grandview Restaurant in Canfield for the last year and a half.
"I'm good at it and it's fun," he said, "and I wanted to pick [a job] that for the rest of my life I could go to work knowing it's going to be a good day." Norris also was attracted to the potential earnings. "I'll be able to make good money," he stated.
Eventually, Norris would like to open his own restaurant, one that specializes in Italian cuisine.
His love of cooking, he noted, may have been inspired by his grandfather, who makes his own sausage.
