HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Penn-Ohio chapter of Canine Companions for Independence will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the activities room of Whispering Oaks, 260 S. Buhl Farm Drive.
PTO rummage sale
SHARON, Pa. -- Bikes, household items, furniture, computers and more will be on sale at the St. Joseph School PTO rummage sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school at 760 E State St.
There will be magic shows, puppet shows and face painting.
Expert on hearing
CORTLAND -- Rich Rakowski, director of Lippy Hearing Center, will talk about hearing difficulties and corrective techniques at a Scope satellite meeting at Lake Vista Club House at 10 a.m. Friday.
There will be a question-and-answer period.
Kiwanis pet showfor children in park
BOARDMAN -- The Kiwanis Club will have its annual pet show at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chester V. Long Pavilion in the township park for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade pupils and their pets.
Pupils must have a signed parental permission form.
Registration begins at 12:30 with judging at 1 p.m. Volunteers from Angels for Animals will serve as judges.
Educational programon West Nile virus
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mill Creek MetroParks will have an educational program, "Fight the Bite of the West Nile Virus," at 7 p.m. June 13 at Ford Nature Center.
Mark Breidenbaugh, a research entomologist with the Youngstown Air Reserve Station and a doctoral student at Kent State University, will speak about the disease and protection measures.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources reports that mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus were detected in Pennsylvania last fall. Call (330) 740-7107.
English talks tradein Uzbekistan in Asia
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-21st, has been on a trade mission to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
"I see Uzbekistan as a trading partner and certainly a market for U.S. products , particularly in the rail industry," English said.
The congressman is a member of the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee and Joint Economic Committee and is chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus.
He has been meeting with various leaders in the former Soviet republic to learn about their country, their businesses and their trade outlook.
Uzbekistan is in central Asia, and the trip was sponsored by the U.S. Asia Foundation. He left last Sunday and was to return today.
Volunteer training
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Historical Society will have volunteer training classes June 13 and June 20.
People are being recruited to help with office work, tour guide activities, special events and grounds care.
