COLUMBIANA CORNER Sheriff expresses hope, frustration in search

Columbiana County Sheriff Dave Smith voiced both hope and frustration Friday regarding the efforts to recover the body of a missing woman from the bottom of Guilford Lake, west of Lisbon.
Authorities searched the lake bottom Wednesday and Thursday for Tracy Hill, 24, of Middleton Township, without success. Divers were stymied by zero visibility underwater.
As he prepared to monitor a third day of searching, Smith was asked if there would be anything different about the effort.
"God, I hope so," Smith said, meaning he hoped that a body would be recovered.
Make a Wish: Zach Garwood, 11, of Fairfield Township, has been undergoing treatment for cancer for several weeks at Akron Children's Hospital. His parents are John and Linda Garwood, owners of High Hope Farms, and lead the Columbiana County Landowners Association, a group opposed to construction of a natural gas pipeline through Columbiana County.
John said Zach was recently approved as a candidate for the Make a Wish Foundation.
Make a Wish Foundation grants requests of ill children, and meeting celebrities or traveling are among the most popular wishes. Zach, however, has other ideas.
John said after discussing wishes such as a four-wheel drive, off-road vehicle or a Caribbean cruise, Zach looked at him one day and asked, in all seriousness, "Can I wish for the pipeline people to go away?"
