CITY COUNCIL
Council approved these items at a special meeting Wednesday:
Authorized the board of control to provide $1,740 to CWA Post 1292 for lighting improvements at the memorial at Steel Street and Midland Avenue.
Elevated the penalty for failure to keep dogs confined or on a leash from a minor misdemeanor to a fourth-degree misdemeanor on repeat offenses.
Elevated the penalty for vicious dog attacks in which a person is injured from a fourth-degree misdemeanor on the first offense and a third-degree misdemeanor on subsequent offenses to a first-degree misdemeanor.
Elevated the penalty for keeping wild animals, such as alligators and crocodiles, which are sometimes used to protect contraband at drug houses, from a minor misdemeanor on the first offense and a fourth-degree misdemeanor on subsequent offenses, to a first-degree misdemeanor because of the danger to police and the community.
BOARD OF CONTROL
The city's control board approved these items Thursday:
Severance of $9,164 for Frances Eichelberger, who retired June 29 as a deputy clerk in the clerk of courts office.
Spending $12,559 to buy a voice stress analysis machines from the National Institute for Truth Verification and training for two officers to use the equipment. The voice analyzer will be used in internal and criminal investigations.
Buying two used cars from the state salvage lot, not to exceed $12,000, for the police department to replace two cars that were totaled in accidents.
A contract not to exceed $50,000 with Cohen and Co. to perform financial reviews of the agencies that receive funding from the city Community Development Agency.
