NY-PENN LEAGUE Scrappers lose to N.J.



AUGUSTA, N.J. -- Although their bats weren't as explosive as in the past two games, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers managed nine hits in a losing cause to New Jersey 4-3 Thursday night at Skylands Park.
The Cardinals (18-19) produced the deciding run in the bottom of the fifth inning of the New York-Penn League contest.
New Jersey had a 3-0 lead when the Scrappers (9-26) scored two runs in the top of the fifth.
Skip Schumacher paced the Cardinals with three singles. John Nelson, Jesse Roman and Seth Davidson added two hits apiece.
Richie Burgess worked four innings, allowed four hits and struck out two to pick up the win.
Mike Edwards went 4-for-5 to lead the Scrappers.
