Tips and precautions
TIPS
Start young -- after 6 months for small dogs or 9 months for large ones.
Train on-leash.
Build up distance and time together.
Have the dog's hips examined for long-distance training.
PRECAUTIONS
Administer heart worm medicine.
Avoid extreme heat. Run early in day or late evening.
Grass or soft surface is easier on pads.
Monitor while running.
Check for excessive panting.
Provide water and shade if observe overheating.
Slow pace to adjust to dog's fitness level.
