AMATEUR TOURNAMENT Becdir bests Jets with 3-run fifth



Livi Steel needed extra innings to win; Lakewood lost.
STRUTHERS -- Becdir Construction got two hits from four different players to defeat Comair Jets of Cincinnati 8-4 Thursday in the National Amateur Baseball Federation Regional (18-and-younger) Tournament at Cene Park.
Becdir scored three runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Juan Serrano, Nick Guerieri, D.J. Fahndrich and Nick Pompeo each had two singles in the win.
Matt Brown scattered nine hits through five innings to pick up the win.
Kevin Prus pitched two hitless innings, striking out two.
David Stringer, David Potter and Mike Gullett led Comair Jets with two hits apiece.
Livi Steel 11, Fraser 10: Livi Steel scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-3 lead. Fraser battled back and led 10-9 in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom half of the seventh inning, Livi Steel scored a run to send it into extra innings.
Mike Enyeart went 3-for-5 to pace Livi Steel's 16-hit attack. Phil Butch hit a triple.
Fraser was paced by Matt Laquinta with three singles.
Mt. Lebanon 4, Lakewood 1: Dan Ruet fired a one-hitter and struck out 10 to pick up the win for Mt. Lebanon. Lakewood's Bill Kelly doubled leading off the second inning.
Ruet hit three singles for the winners. Justin Gordon, John Janko and Adam Schlossman each had two hits.
Tournament action continues today when Fraser faces Lakewood at 12:30 p.m. Livi Steel meets Mt. Lebanon at 3 p.m. Becdir faces Maryland at 3 p.m.
Class AA playoffs: YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Metros rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to turn back Giachetta/Tamburros 10-9.
In the other bracket, Stadium/Pal Joey's tripped Dicioccio's 17-10.
The best-of-three series contests are being played at Pemberton/Donnell Park and continue today.
Metros got its three runs in the sixth as Darek Stanfield doubled and scored on a single by Caleb Goist. Frank Santore walked and Mike Mayek singled to score Goist.
Paron Massey and Ross Buttle both walked, forcing home Santore.
Stanfield hit a pair of singles. Rob Tamburro and Ray Jaminet led the losers with two hits apiece.
Metros will face Giachetta's/Tamburros today at 6 p.m. and Dicioccio meets Stadium/Pal Joeys at 8.
