NILES -- Warren's E.T. Whitaker (20-4) will fight Ruben Torres (11-7) of Cleveland as part of a co-main event for "Star Wars," a six-bout boxing event Aug. 17 at Eastwood Expo Center.
"We are making an attempt to bring back big-time boxing to this area," said Gregg Augustine, the event's match maker.
Lou Bizarro Jr. (14-1) a junior welterweight from Erie Pa., will fight an undetermined opponent in the other main bout.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The first fight starts at 7:30.
Augustine said the Whitaker-Torres fight could lead to a possible Ohio light heavyweight title bout in Youngstown.
"This should be a great fight," Augustine said. "It will provide plenty of action."
Other fighters: The event also features junior middleweight Charlie Howe (11-3) of Grelton, Ohio; Danny Maldanado (4-0, 4 KO's) a featherweight from Owensboro, Ky.; Joey Bullock (5-1), a lightweight from Youngstown, and middleweight Sam Hawkins.
Warren's P.C. Torres, 39, will make his professional debut at the event.
"P.C. had a good amateur ring career," said Augustine. "He is always in shape and will be ready for this fight."
Augustine said he may schedule events in October and December, including a possible fight with Kelly Pavlik, a junior middleweight from Youngstown with a 9-0 professional record.
