LIBERTY Suspect in fight is arrested after trying to flee in cop car

The driver faces several charges, including fleeing from police.
LIBERTY -- Police were searching for a man involved in a parking lot fist fight when he jumped into one of their cars and screeched away, Liberty police reports say.
The 29-year-old Girard man was taken into custody a few minutes later after crashing into a Mercedes Benz vehicle parked at a nearby auto shop, reports say. He was trying to flee on foot until stopped by witnesses about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police were initially dispatched to the parking lot of Belmont Suites to break up a fight that witnesses said began after the bartender in the hotel bar refused to serve the Girard man, an ex-employee.
Searching: While one of the fighters was being interviewed in one police car, a second officer at the scene began searching for the other fighter, who he thought had entered the hotel.
After searching the hotel corridor and lobby with no luck, the officer went outside, and his cruiser was missing. A few moments later, he spotted it speeding through the parking lot of the nearby Tally-Ho Motel.
The car pulled onto Belmont Avenue and attempted to turn west onto state Route 304, when the driver lost control and veered into International Automotive's parking lot, reports say. He was running behind the shop when finally cornered by witnesses and neighbors, reports say.
Charges filed: The driver is charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing police, vandalism, resisting arrest, drunken driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.
He kicked out the rear passenger window of another police car while he was being taken to the police station, reports say.
