2 injured in crash
GREENE -- A 34-year-old man is in serious condition today at Cleveland MetroHealth Center after crashing his vehicle on state Route 46.
Henry E. Martin Jr. of North Bloomfield was driving his vehicle north around 6 p.m. Tuesday when he missed a curve, drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree, Ohio State Highway Patrol reports say.
A passenger in Martin's car was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. OSHP officials did not have the passenger's name late this morning.
Bigamist avoids jail
NEWTON FALLS -- A man found guilty of bigamy has been spared jail time.
Municipal Judge Thomas Old sentenced Randy Jarvis, 40, of Mahoning Court, to 90 days in jail Tuesday, but suspended the jail time and a $1,000 fine because Jarvis agreed to pay an undisclosed amount of restitution to Tammy Jarvis.
Prosecutor Rick Swartz said Tammy Jarvis told the court that she married Jarvis in March and then found out in April that he was still legally married to a woman in California.
Jarvis pleaded no contest last month and the judge found him guilty.
Caucus canceled
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees have canceled their monthly caucus scheduled for Aug. 9.
Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the township administration building and will have a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on amendments to township zoning laws which would change the cost for permits for gas and oil wells and increase restrictions on site planning.
Robbed at red light
WARREN -- A 41-year-old city woman said she was robbed while she was stopped at a traffic light on Atlantic and Vine around noon Monday. She told police that a man holding a gun approached and demanded money.
Bike trails on agenda
McDONALD -- A public meeting of the Weathersfield Township Responsible Citizens Association will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Summit Assembly of God, 2615 Salt Springs Road. Susan E. Dicken, director of park development, Mill Creek Metropolitan Park District, will speak about bike trails.
Break-in probed
WARREN -- Police are investigating a break-in at Adgate & amp; Son Florist, 706 E. Market St. Reports say someone broke into the store early Tuesday by prying open the back door. The store was ransacked and a safe was opened. The report does not say what was taken.
Fund-raiser for family
WARREN -- A carwash and bake sale to raise money for a family that recently lost its home in a fire will be from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E.
The fund-raising event is sponsored by the children and staff of Shepherd's Academy, a summer camp serving area youth. All donations are welcome, but the family particularly needs clothing for its 7-year-old child, size 8 slim pants and size 8-10 in shirts.
Charged in false filing
SHARON, Pa. -- A city woman has been charged with falsely accusing two Farrell men of forcing her to have sexual contact with them.
City police said Nicole Harris, 18, Mesabi Street, told them the men forced her to perform oral sex on them and to walk down the street naked as a female juvenile watched early Friday.
Police said Harris, who was treated at Sharon Regional Health System's emergency room, had bruises to corroborate her story. Police said they issued warrants for the two men on charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
The men were questioned by police Tuesday night. Afterward, Harris admitted her story had been fabricated, police said. She is charged with filing false reports and was to be arraigned today.
