Woman is unidentified
AUSTINTOWN -- A woman who told police she is from New York was arrested early Tuesday and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in the parking lot of the Rebel 38 Lounge, 5335 Seventy Six Drive. The woman gave police an alias and said she was 28 years old. Officers first saw her walking between semi trucks parked in the parking lot, but she ran when they approached. An hour later police saw her enter a truck, where the driver said she jumped in uninvited. Reports say police saw a string hanging from her back pocket and found the knife attached to the string. The woman's identity is still unknown.
Driver arrested
AUSTINTOWN -- A 28-year-old Youngstown man was arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence after police saw him drive his black Plymouth Breeze across the center lane on Warwick South near Rebecca Drive. Dean M. Figinsky of Portland Avenue has three previous DUI convictions from 1995 and 1997. A 911 call from a cellular phone led police to the man. Reports say he nearly hit an oncoming vehicle head on at about 10 p.m. Sunday. Figinsky also was charged with driving the wrong way and driving under suspension. He was released on personal recognizance pending an Aug. 20 court hearing.
'Identi-kits' for children
LAKE MILTON -- The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department will be at Lake Milton Presbyterian Church at 942 Grandview Road at 2 p.m. Sunday to do children's "Identi-kits." Kits include photograph and fingerprints.
The event coincides with the church's & quot;Concerts-on-the-Lawn & quot; series. Entertainment will be provided by Laurie James and Stampede, a country band. The free concert begins at 2 p.m. Bring lawn chairs.
Charges filed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A preliminary hearing will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday in Municipal Court for Dwane Armstrong, 31, of 508 Parkcliffe Ave., on three counts of kidnapping and one count of felonious assault. Armstrong is charged with holding family members hostage and striking one at his home early Saturday before shooting himself in the hand. He is being held at the Mahoning County Jail on $175,000 bond.
Austintown trustees
AUSTINTOWN -- Township trustees voted Monday to declare 16 properties in various township locations a public nuisance because of high grass, which, in some cases, is as high as 3 feet.
The property owners will receive notices of the declaration and have seven days to mow the grass, or else the township will have it mowed for them and assess the mowing cost on their property taxes, Trustee David Ditzler said.
Mark Makar or Austintown and James Evans of Mineral Ridge were sworn in as unpaid reserve police officers.
Trustee Chairman Jeff Groat announced the township has received notice that McDonald's on Kirk Road will soon move to New and Raccoon roads.
Fatigue and anemia
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two doctors will discuss fatigue and anemia Wednesday at a program at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., hematology and oncology specialists Drs. Sudershan K. Garg and Antoine Chahine will give lectures, followed by a question-and-answer session, dinner and a visit to the rose gardens.

Rock-throwing incident
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township police say seven youths will likely be referred to a diversion program instead of charges being filed for a rock-throwing situation at 12:50 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 680 here. Juvenile Officer Dan Valentine said today a driver told a tollbooth worker at Ohio turnpike entrance 16A that youths had thrown rocks at his vehicle on I-680. The driver did not report any damage or injuries. A tollbooth worker called police, who caught the youths. A diversion program helps authorities intervene without giving youths a criminal record.
