NOTES From Cafaro Field
Dog tired: Team mascot "Scrappy" celebrated a birthday in the 93-degree heat Sunday. Inside, Cory Yankush, 20, of Liberty, said the heat reached "about 110 degrees" during the afternoon game. Yankush, a 1999 Ursuline graduate, became ill Sunday night after nine innings of entertaining the crowd. The Elon University student bounced back and was still signing autographs in the ninth inning Monday.
Strikeout king: Relief pitcher Todd Culp struck out eight in three-and-two-thirds innings of work to tie Luke Field for the season high Ks in a game. Culp now has 22 strikeouts in his last 172/3 innings of work covering four appearances.
