Minny Yeo leads team to big win

The South Korean credited her teammates after victory in The Vindicator Pro-Am.

VIENNA --Minny Yeo said it was the play of her amateur teammates.
Her teammates said Yeo was the difference between winning and losing.
The amateur team of Ken Maceyko of Hermitage, Pa.; Tom Ankron of Canfield; Jim Junk of Cuyahoga Falls; and Ken Grongola of Pittsburgh teamed up with the second-year pro from Seoul, South Korea, to capture the men's division in The Vindicator Pro-Am tournament Monday at Squaw Creek Country Club.
The event was the first competition of the weeklong festivities at the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic.
The winning team shot an actual 57, 15-under-par and received a 4.6 handicap rating for a winning score of 52.4.
They finished ahead of the runner-up team that was led by professional Kim Bauer of Woodlands, Texas.
Playing with Bauer were Danial Stansky, David Lynn, Gordy Optiz and Tim Gintert, who also shot a 15-under-par 57, but had only 1 handicap for a 56 total.
Other winners: The women's division was won by the team of professional Marianne Morris of Middletown along with amateurs Ann Buck, Lorraine Buck, Stephanie Dewar and Elena Rossi, who shot a 13-under-par 59 and a net score of 58.3.
LPGA professional LeRee Sugg of Petersburg, Va., led the mixed division champions.
Her amateur partners were Ron Blazusky, Keith Kaiser, Michelle Reuss and Rick Gray. That team shot a 12-under-par 60 with a 3.8 handicap rating for a 56.2 net score.
Yeo, a non-exempt player on this year's tour, said her amateur partners were great putters.
"They made all the putts all day long," she said. "It was a fun day out there."
Her partners disagreed.
"Minny was the difference," Maceyko said. "She carried us on her shoulders all the way around today."
Ankron said, "She knocked it close all day and made some big putts."
Ken Grongola said the highlight of his day was his tremendous drive on the 18th hole to help the team to another birdie.
"The rest of the day I just rode around in the cart," he said.
Nobody agreed with him.
Long-drive champs: Opitz of the runner-up team won the men's amateur long-drive title with a drive of 292 yards, held on hole No. 13.
The women's long-drive winner was Dewar of the winning women's team with a drive of 248 yards.
The top two teams in each division will receive their awards at the tournament awards banquet Thursday following the second day of play in the Cellular One Pro-Am tournament.
There were 20 teams that competed in Monday's event, the first sponsored by The Vindicator.
