MAHONING VALLEY Complaints prompt HBA to expel 2

These are the third and fourth companies to be expelled by the HBA this year.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Home Builders Association of Mahoning Valley has expelled two construction companies after receiving complaints.
The HBA board voted to expel Executive Construction Co., a division of Snyder and Associates of Austintown, and L & amp;R Builders of Niles, at a meeting earlier this month. Neither business appealed the decision, said Mike Wilson, HBA executive director.
"We are hoping to protect consumers from doing business with them," he said.
Reasons: The HBA can expel businesses that have been the subject of three written complaints of unethical behavior or nonpayment of bills in a three-month period, Wilson said. The voluntary organization of builders and suppliers has 960 members in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
Customers and suppliers complained that Executive Construction, owned by Jim Snyder, has left work unfinished and suppliers hanging for payment, Wilson said. The company's listed phone number has been disconnected, and Wilson said the company has gone out of business.
Wilson said the HBA received complaints that L & amp;R Builders, owned by Rob McCloskey, received money for home improvements but did not complete the work and did not respond to complaints. No one answered repeated calls to the business Monday.
Two other companies, Better Plumbing and Home Improvement, of Boardman, and Phibbs Roofing of Hubbard were expelled from the HBA earlier this year, Wilson said.
