CCL Container, employees have pact

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Negotiations between CCL Container Corp. and its production and maintenance employees have netted a new four-year contract.
By a 2-to-1 margin, members of IUE-CWA Local 648 ratified the agreement, which provides a wage increase of more than 3 percent a year. It also provides workers with double-time pay on Sundays, increases in sick and accident benefits and additional life insurance. The previous average hourly wage was $15.14.
The agreement, approved Sunday, is retroactive to July 1. The old contract expired June 30. On June 27, the 154-member union rejected a proposed contract, but agreed to work on a day-to-day basis.
CCL Container is the largest producer of aluminum aerosol cans in North America.
