Police find body of man
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police on patrol found a man's body in a wooded area off Lansdowne Road early Saturday.
The officers reported a strong odor near the intersection of Lansdowne and Arch Street. Checking for the source, officers found the body down an embankment in some woods about 90 feet from the intersection, according to reports.
Police and the Mahoning County Coroner's office are investigating.
Man shot in hand
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man was in stable condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center on Saturday evening with a gunshot wound to the hand. Police said that the man had been shot but that no more information was available because reports have been turned over to the department's internal affairs division.
James Robinson, 37, of Sherwood Avenue was treated at the hospital after being struck in the head with a shotgun by the man early Saturday. Police had responded to 508 Parkcliffe Ave., where the man was on the front porch with a shotgun. Sometime after police arrived, Robinson showed up and had to be restrained but broke free to enter the residence. The occupant allegedly struck Robinson in the head with the weapon and held Robinson against his will for about an hour. Robinson later escaped. Police said no charges had been filed.
Two break into home
YOUNGSTOWN -- An East Side man reported being assaulted after two men with handguns broke into his home.
A 28-year-old Atkinson Avenue man told police two men in their early 20s forced their way in and struck him on the head, forcing him to the ground.
He also told police the two robbed him of a handgun and a shotgun, three gold chains and $600.
Jefferson Twp. Fair
MERCER, Pa. -- The 31st annual Jefferson Township Fair will run Tuesday through Saturday at the Jefferson Township Municipal Grounds at 7407 Lamor Road.
Monday is entry day. The fair will open to the public at 5 p.m. each day, Tuesday through Friday. The horse show will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, and other fair activities will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Admission and parking are free.
Activities include games, rides and exhibits. Daily dinner entrees will be available for purchase from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a buffet Saturday. Also, the music group the Earthquakers will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday, and Rick Magee and the Roadhouse Rockers will play at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Skydiving Festival
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The 10th Annual Stefan Banic Skydiving Festival and the Second Pa. State Parachuting Championships runs Friday through next Sunday at the Greenville Municipal Airport.
The event will feature displays, parachuting demonstrations, flight and motion simulator rides, tandem parachute jump classes and helicopter rappelling.
Admission and parking are free. Activity costs vary. Each day will begin with breakfast at 8 a.m. Events start at 9 a.m. Friday and Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
