East Palestine Venezia Auto Sales 7, Struthers Davis & amp; Becker 6 -- Pitchers Richard McNeal and Travis Biscella combined for the eight-inning win. Craig Ward hit a two-run homer. Frankie Newman's eighth-inning home run was the game-winner. For Struthers, Matt Bradley and Mike Firmstone both doubled and singled.
East Palestine Venezia Auto Sales 10, Crestview 0 -- Travis Biscella and Nick Henry combined for the shutout. Frankie Newman homered and David Mullins tripled. Johnny Simon and Ed Byerly each had two hits.
East Palestine Venezia Auto Sales 2, Boardman Boosters 1 -- Johnny Simon fired a four-hitter. David Mullins tripled. For Boardman, Orin Ponchak tossed a two-hitter and Jason Simcox singled and scored the Boosters' run.
SOFTBALL
Little League District (ages 13-14)
Canfield 3, Boardman 1 -- Winning pitcher Ashley Bleggi tossed a four-hitter. Stephanie Zunic had two hits and an RBI. C.J. Calabrese doubled home Canfield's other runs. Franquie Yazbek doubled. For Boardman, Sarah Albani and Tricia Bailey tossed a four-hitter. Alyssa Calautti doubled, while Albani, Alison Sfarra and Jamie Spickler singled.
Canfield 6, Boardman 5 -- Laura Hageman homered in the bottom of the sixth inning to send the game to extra innings. In the eighth inning, Hageman singled to load the bases before Kerrie Haurin scored the winning run to give Canfield its third straight district title in this bracket. Stephanie Zunic tripled. Canfield will begin state tournament play Wednesday in Elyria. Other members of manager Larry Zunic's team are Julie Cooper, Dana Elias, Candace Madden, Nicole Mamula, Abby Tierney, Katie Williams and Elizabeth Zinni. For Boardman, Emily Hays' three hits included a triple. Alyssa Calautti had three hits, while Tricia Bailey and Katie Zetts had two.
