Vienna club members earn state titles
Two members of the Vienna Cougars junior rifle team earned state titles at the recent Ohio Outdoor Championships at Camp Perry near Sandusky.
The team participated in the event June 23, 24.
On June 23, Chris Keller of Girard won the Kreidler Prone Championship with 1584 out of 1600 points. It was her second year in a row for this event title. Stephanie Birmingham of New Springfield took second with 1579 points. The Cougars also took top team honors with 6279 points. For this match, first team members were Keller and Birmingham as well as Laura Kuntz of Columbiana and Ryan Pearce of Warren.
June 24, Birmingham took first place in the three-position championship scoring 1058 of 1200 points from standing, kneeling and prone positions. The Cougars also took team honors in this event with a score of 4012. In this event, first team members were Keller, Birmingham, Kuntz and Jon Nicholas of Warren.
This match serves as a qualifier for the national championships this month. Keller, Birmingham, Kuntz, Nicholas, Pearce and Gina Cheliras of Campbell will shoot in the national event.
