LISBON Family says funeral home was disrespectful, inappropriate

Punitive damages of $750,000 are being sought.
LISBON -- The family of a deceased man is suing a funeral home, claiming the business acted inappropriately in handling the man's remains.
The lawsuit was filed earlier this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court by Clarence Coil, Wanda Zwick, Cathy Russell, Robert J. Coil, Jeffrey Coil, Connie Morrell, Tina Edmond and Barbara Board, most of whom are from the Columbiana County area.
The plaintiffs are family members of the deceased, Robert Coil, who died of natural causes in August.
The lawsuit says the body was taken to Altmeyer Funeral Homes Inc., based in East Liverpool.
A funeral home spokesman was unavailable to comment.
The suit says the funeral home refused to take appropriate steps to treat Coil's remains until the family had satisfied the funeral home that it had means to pay.
"The remains were ... left unclothed and in a condition of dishonor and disrespect," the lawsuit said.
Offensive talk: Also claimed is that a funeral home employee made sexually suggestive remarks to a family member of the deceased.
Family members are seeking $100,000 in compensatory damages and $750,000 in punitive damages.
The case has been assigned to Judge David Tobin.
