NEW YORK-PENN Scrapperslose again in 10th

It was their eighth loss in extra innings this year as Batavia prevailed, 6-5.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- There's something about extra innings the Mahoning Valley Scrappers just don't like.
The Batavia Muckdogs gave Mahoning Valley its eighth loss this season in extra innings, 6-5 Wednesday at Dwyer Stadium. Batavia scored in the bottom of the 10th inning to break the tie.
Lead early: The Scrappers' offense gave starting pitcher Nick Moran a 4-0 lead through 51/2 innings. That didn't matter because Batavia rallied for three runs in the bottom half against Moran, who exited after allowing four hits, with six strikeouts and one walk, through his six innings.
Batavia took a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning against reliever Mark Turnbow before the Scrappers tied it in the eighth. Jeff Pennington (0-1) allowed Batavia's game-winning run in the 10th.
Ryan Hutchison (2-0) was the winning pitcher.
Scrappers right fielder Miguel Quintana and designated hitter Rickie Morton each had two hits, with Morton, who hit his fifth homer this season, driving in three runs.
Shortstop Jesus Colmenter tripled for the Scrappers, while Dennis Malave doubled.
Right fielder Erick Rivera had two hits for Batavia (16-11), which kept pace in the Pinckney-Stedler Division of the New York-Penn League, 11/2 games behind first-place Williamsport.
Ninth straight: The Scrappers (6-23), meanwhile, continue to struggle, losing for the ninth straight time. They are now 0-5 on their road trip, which concludes tonight in Batavia.
Mahoning Valley will return home Friday night to begin a four-game series against Hudson Valley. The six-game homestand will conclude July 25 after two games against Oneonta.
