MINERAL RIDGE Weathersfield board OKs raise for superintendent

There had been no provision for a raise in the contract.

MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Board of Education has given Superintendent Rocco Adduci an 8 percent raise, increasing his annual salary to $68,000, after a year in the job.
Adduci, 52, was hired Aug. 1 on a three-year contract at $63,000 annually. He had been assistant principal at Niles McKinley High School.
His contract made no provisions for raises, but board president Douglas Darnall said the board approved the raise on the recommendation of Adduci, who said he should have a cost-of-living increase.
The board approved the raise at its regular meeting this week, which was changed from the regularly scheduled session next Wednesday because of scheduling conflicts for some board members.
The August meeting has also been changed to Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. in the high school library from Aug. 29.
Year in review: Adduci called his first year dramatic.
He noted that the district will break ground by the end of September on an addition to Seaborn Elementary School and that the Joe Lane Sports Complex should be nearly completed by the time school starts.
The district has been refurbishing classrooms at the high school and middle school and work to improve the curriculum has been under way.
Changes for the coming school year include hiring an additional English teacher to help reduce class size at the high school and a new Spanish teacher.
Three teachers also will work full time as industrial technology instructors for computers at all three buildings.
