City to probe reportsthat cops beat man
WARREN -- The city will conduct the investigation into reports that a 29-year-old man was beaten by police.
State and city officials said the police department must investigate the complaint filed by LaMont Murray, 29, before the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation decides if it will do an independent probe.
Murray said officers used excessive force on him during his arrest June 25.
Police warn about manwho is harassing girls
NILES -- Police are warning people about a man reportedly approaching young girls, requesting sex.
Within the last few months, police have received two reports of a man about 45 approaching girls as they were walking.
The man, who was driving a green car with no visible rear license plate, asked the girls for directions and then asked them to perform a sex act.
In the first incident about three months ago, the man, who wasn't wearing pants, drove alongside three girls, ages 9, 8 and 12, as they were walking along North Cedar Street.
The second time, Monday, the man, who was completely naked, approached girls in the Taft Avenue-Roosevelt Avenue area.
Both episodes occurred in the early evening.
The man has dark, graying hair.

Packard Museum showto feature '41 limousine
WARREN -- The National Packard Museum will unveil its newest acquisition at its annual car show, "2001 -- A Packard Odyssey."
The 1941 Packard LeBaron Limousine was custom built for Elizabeth Gilmer Packard, widow of James Ward Packard.
It was donated to the museum by Mrs. Packard's grandnephew, Thomas Summers, who acquired the car upon her death in 1960.
The car was restored by Mike Yost of Warren.
The car show opens at noon Friday at the museum, 1899 Mahoning Ave. Friday's show runs until 10 p.m.
Saturday's hours are 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday's are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
2 men arrestedin car break-ins
GIRARD -- Michael Lowery, 18, of Salt Springs Road, McDonald, and Michael P. Shonce, 18, of Illinois Avenue, Girard, are in the Trumbull County jail on charges of receiving stolen property, criminal trespass and criminal damaging.
Shonce's bond is $25,000 because he's wanted on a probation violation, while Lowery's bond is $12,500.
Capt. Frank Bigowsky said officers were investigating six car break-ins at Shannon Terrace Apartments when they spotted Lowery and Shonce.
Bigowsky said stolen stereo equipment and personal property taken from the cars were found in the area.
Woman reports scam
NILES -- A 79-year-old Warren Avenue woman told police she got a call Wednesday afternoon from a woman telling her she had won $150,000 in a Canadian sweepstakes.
The caller told the woman she needed to pay $3,000 in Canadian tax and then she could drive to the border or send a wire to collect the prize.
The woman got another phone call later that day from a man, telling her that her prize would be held for 18 hours, then forfeited.
New health official
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Health has named Frank Migliozzi of Girard as director of environmental health.
Migliozzi, who works for the Geauga County Board of Health, will supervise the inspection of commercial kitchens and water and septic systems.
He replaces Loretta Ecklund, who stepped down as director for a lower-paying position as a department sanitarian.
Migliozzi will earn $18.61 an hour, then $20.68 after his first four months. He is a 1997 graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in environmental health studies.
