Children's safety fair
YOUNGSTOWN -- A safety fair will be at San-Dee's Child Care Services, 1061 Lyden Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. The event is free. The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department will offer a kids' Ident-A-Kit throughout the day, and a presentation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol will take place at 2 p.m. The Youngstown Area Urban League and the Youngstown Fire Department will be on hand. There will also be activities such as face-painting for children.
Complex dedication
MINERAL RIDGE -- The new Joe Lane Sports Complex will be dedicated Aug. 26. The school's annual Band Night will be Aug. 25, and the next day's dedication will include a parade planned by Weathersfield Township Fire Department, a ceremony and fireworks .
The complex should be open by the start of the school year, school board president Douglas Darnall said. The nearly four-acre complex includes a new football field, field house, concession stand, bleachers for home and away spectators, a baseball field and football and baseball scoreboards.
Village council hirings
LEETONIA -- Village council has hired Kim M. Weston, Rilissa L. Caisango and Deborah S. Stacey at $7.57 an hour as part-time safety force dispatchers. Also Wednesday, council hired Jeffrey P. Toker as a part-time clerk in the income tax department.
