AUSTINTOWN Man accused of breaking into apartment, raping girl
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that an Austintown man broke into a Fountain Square residence Sunday morning and raped a 12-year-old girl.
The man, 29, will face charges of aggravated burglary and resisting arrest and is being held in Mahoning County jail.
The girl told police she was lying in her mother's bed at 7 a.m. Sunday when the man entered the room and got into the bed. The man told the girl not to scream or he would hurt everyone in the house.
A 17-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were in another room of the house at the time. Neither was hurt.
The man had entered the house by breaking a ground-level window, police said.
Police report the girl walked away from the man and went to the bathroom, but he followed her and raped her.
The man fell asleep afterward, police said. The girl then called her grandmother and told her to come to the house with police.
When the police arrived, the man was still asleep under a blanket in the bed. Upon waking him, the man struggled with police while being handcuffed.
The girl's grandmother took her to Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Police reports do not say where the girl's mother was at the time.
