TRUMBULL COUNTY Renovations to begin at Warren library

WARREN -- Work will begin July 30 to renovate the ceiling and improve lighting on the second floor of the main branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, on Mahoning Avenue.
The local history and genealogy section, housed on the second floor, is expected to remain open through most of the renovation. The Sutliff Museum will be closed until work is completed in early September.
The library's second floor also houses administrative offices for the library system and a meeting room.
The cost of replacing second floor ceiling tiles and florescent lights in the 30-year-old building is expected to be $173,000, said Jan Vaughn, a library spokeswoman. It cost $250,000 to replace the ceiling tiles and lights on the first floor last August, she said.
New lights are necessary because the control units for the old fluorescent lights have been burning out regularly, at a rate of several a month, said Gary Thompson, who is in charge of facilities. Sometimes, they would set off the building's fire alarm when they went.
"We were worried about it blazing up," Thompson said.
The new high-efficiency lights will save the library about 25 percent on its electrical bill, he said.
