Court date set for two men charged with firing at home

NILES -- Two McDonald men will return to court next week to face charges accusing them of shooting into a Wood Street home.
Hale H. Burkholder III, 22, and Jeremy S. Gromley, 19, both of Hayes Avenue, are charged with two counts each of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, a felony.
The two men appeared Monday in Niles Municipal Court before acting Judge Michael D. Joseph.
The Wood Street resident told police he and a friend were in the house about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when someone fired several shots. The two dropped to the floor, crawled to the basement and called police.
On patrol: Patrolman Allen Clay was on patrol and saw muzzle flashes from gunshots coming from a car that was driving past the Wood Street home. The dispatch center got the call of shots fired shortly after that.
Clay chased the car, stopping it at Belmont Avenue and Olive Street. Burkholder and Gromley were arrested with help from other Niles officers and Weathersfield police.
The Wood Street resident told police he thinks the shots were fired because he had reported to police threats made against his brother.
Both suspects were released Monday on bond.
