Walsh Jesuit tops Ursuline to win soccer tournament

STRUTHERS -- George Nanchoff scored a goal and recorded two assists Sunday to lead Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit to a 3-1 victory over Ursuline in the championship game of the Bishop James J. Malone/Catholic Charities invitational Soccer Tournament.
With three goals and five assists, Nanchoff and Eric Schmidt (four goals) led Walsh to a 5-0 record.
Schmidt and Marty Kilmer scored the other goals in the title victory.
P.J. Graves scored for Ursuline.
Shut 'em down: Walsh goalkeeper Adam Urban had four shutouts in the weekend tournament at Valley Sports Ltd.
Mooney took third place with a 1-0 victory over Lakewood St. Edward.
Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas finished fifth with a 2-1 victory over Warren JFK. Brian Ulery scored the game-winning goal.
In Saturday's preliminary round, Mooney and Lakewood St. Edward finished with 2-1 records, but Mooney was named the Red Group winner by virtue of the Cardinals' 2-1 win over St. Edward. Mooney's Pat Walker scored with one second remaining to produce the win.
Mooney also defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 5-0 as Chris Conese scored two goals and Jon Freany had a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Jeff Seddon had the shutout.
Walsh was tough: Mooney's other preliminary game was a 5-0 loss to Walsh. Nanchoff scored a goal and had two assists while Zeljko Vasiljevic netted two goals.
Ursuline went 1-2 in the preliminary Green Division round, then defeated Mooney 2-0 in the semifinals.
Ursuline's preliminary win was a 3-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. Dan Franks and Ryan Coffey teamed up for the shutout.
The Irish lost to Walsh (1-0) and St. Edward (1-0).
