Man dies in accident
GREEN -- An East Palestine man died Sunday morning from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident here. William F. Gorby Jr., 35, was pronounced dead at Cleveland Metro Hospital. Gorby was flown to the hospital after the accident Saturday night. Police reports say Gorby lost control of his motorcycle in a curve on state Route 165 near the Green and Beaver township line. The motorcycle went off the south side of the road and hit a ditch, a tree and a signpost. Police do not know how fast Gorby was traveling. He was not wearing a helmet.
Fireworks stolen
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Fireworks were taken from a Zambelli Internationale storage area off state Route 551 in North Beaver Township. Pennsylvania State Police said someone broke into the warehouse sometime from July 6 to Thursday.

Jeep and money stolen
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police say someone took a Jeep Grand Cherokee after breaking into the owner's home and stealing the keys and some cash inside the house. Police said someone pried open a rear door of the Cunningham Avenue home sometime from 3 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
About $125 was missing from the living room and police suspect the person who broke in also unlocked a second car and removed about $160 from a purse in the car. The burgundy 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which had about $200 cash, video games and clothes in it, also was taken, police said.
Adultland vandalized
PULASKI, Pa. -- About $500 damage was done to Adultland XXX, an adult bookstore on U.S. Route 422. Pennsylvania State Police said someone smashed the glass out of the front door and pried open the back door, but nothing was taken from inside the store. Police were alerted to at 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Union Twp. gets grant
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has awarded a $2,452 recycling performance grant to Union Township.
The grant was based on the total amount of materials recycled by the township in 1999, as well as the township's overall recycling rate. The Recycling Performance Grant Program was established by Act 101 of 1988, the Pennsylvania Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Reduction Act.
Marijuana plants found
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police seized 15 suspected marijuana plants growing in pots on the porch of a Winter Road home in Union Township. Police found the plants at 12:14 p.m. Thursday. No arrests have been made and no other details were available.
Teen-ager arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old West Ravenwood Avenue boy was arrested Saturday evening after being accused of pulling an unloaded gun at a street fight. Police say the teen was one of several spectators at a fight at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on West Ravenwood Avenue. Another West Ravenwood Avenue resident told police the boy waved the gun around during the fight. The boy ran into his house when police arrived. The gun, which was unloaded, was found in a barbecue grill on his front porch. The boy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and released to his mother's custody.
